Mark Schwartz

Bio

Mark Schwartz is a founding partner, chairs the investment committee, provides strategic direction to the firm and manages strategic partner relationships. Before forming his own firm, Mark served as a senior advisor to George Soros and then as President and Chief Executive Officer of Soros Fund Management from 2002 until early 2005. Prior to his appointment at Soros, Mark worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co from 1979 to 2001 where he eventually became the Chairman of Goldman Sachs (Asia), the President of Goldman Sachs (Japan), and a member of the Firmwide Management Committee. Mark and his wife Lisa are involved in many important philanthropic activities. Mark is also Chairman of the Columbia Presbyterian Health Sciences Advisory Council, and he is a Trustee of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, New York. At Harvard University, Mark is a member of the Dean’s Council at Harvard College, the Committee on University Resources Executive Committee, the New York Major Gifts Committee, the Dean's Executive Committee of the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Asia Center and Harvard China Fund Advisory Committees. Mark and Lisa also support land conservation efforts through the Westchester Land Trust and the Columbia Land Conservancy. Additionally, they have created and manage an organic farm called Rainbeau Ridge, which is an effort to make sustainable agriculture and land conservation an important part of the community in which they live. Mark is also a Director of MasterCard where he serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee, and of SoftBank Corp., a leading provider of telecom and broadband services in Japan. Mark is a Trustee of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Hospital, Vice Chairman of the Audit Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian. He is also actively engaged at Massachusetts General Hospital where he serves on the Board of Trustees and on the President’s Council, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard (formerly the Partners AIDS Research Center), and on the Advisory Board of the Center for Regenerative Medicine. Much of Mark's focus at MGH has been devoted to global health issues with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS and TB in South Africa and Uganda. Mark earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard College (1976), his MBA at Harvard Business School (1979) and his MPP from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard (1979).
